This product sounds great but I was wondering what happens to the consistancy of Rim Guard as it gets cold? Does it thicken like molasses or remain free flowing? Is there any location in Wisconsin that sells it?

You might be able to get one from Bubco. They have them for their quick hitches. I got mine from Kubota as part their three point tilt and tip kit. But you could make one using an ordinary 8 inch cylinder. The ends of the cylinder will need to be lengthened and modified. It is not necessary to have a welder to make what you need. But a cutting torch, some one inch thick steel, and a drill press that can bore one inch holes would be required. This heavy bar stock gets pinned into the ends of the cylinder. It needs to be cut so that it locks around the ends of the cylinder. Then at the other end of each piece another one inch hole is bored so that you can mount the assembly between the tractor and the implement. I can definately confirm that the ability to tip and tilt a box blade makes it incredibly more useful.

I almost bought a 4000 series tractor when they were first coming out. But the lack of decent cab caused me to look at Kubota. To make the long story short I ended up with the Kubota Grand L4310. I was unaware of the JD engineering defects although I suspected that there may be some as is typical of new designs. The Kubota L series were new models also but really they were just refinements of the previous models. I considered that a positive. The way that I looked at it was that the Kubotas had already been through the teething difficulties that the 4000 series tractors now are experiencing. I have a hundred hours on it now and I would have to say I am very pleased. I was a little concerned about the treadle control for the hydrostatic at first. But I have gotten quited used to it and appreciate the extremely accurated control that it provides. I had not used the stop for the three point that was mentioned. The loader is strong and the lights up on the top of the cab make it fairly easy to use at night. My dealer also sells JD and the head mechanic considers the Kubotas to be less troublesome. The options that I have are the triple hydraulic valve, the quick attach bracket for the loader bucket, and the tip and tilt kit for the three point. I wish the 4WD control was within easier reach. And I wish it had telescoping lower links for the three point. The hydraulic center link for the three point is a little bit short so I had to extend the attachment point for it on my box blade. I have not needed any warranty work. I'm sold on the Kubota now.

David, I can't speak specifically about the L3010 either as my tractor is an L4310 with the hydrostatic transmission. My experience with this "L" series tractor however has been very positive. I usually use a loader and a box blade. With these attachments there seems to never be any need to use the brakes to assist with sharp turns. But there is a way to do it. By engaging the cruise control the tractor effectively operates just like if it had a manual transmission. You can use the clutch to start and stop. The hydrostatic transmission continues to be at whatever speed setting it was set for. Just as if you were in some particular gear on a manual tranny. Your foot can leave the hydrostatic control pedal and operate the brakes individually if you want to. I have tried this and it works but I never use it because the tractor turns so well anyway. I have two attachments that make the tractor especially enjoyable to operate. One is the quick attach bracket for the loader bucket. It makes changing from bucket to forks or just going without for mowing a snap. The other is the tip and tilt kit for the three point. I can't imagine using the box blade without that extra control. It even helps with the mower. There is only one thing that I wish this tractor had and that is telescoping lower three point hitch links. You have to by a blue tractor if you want those. I have an L4310 and I have found it more difficult to hook up three point implements than it is on larger tractors. The reason is mainly because of not having telescoping lower links. I have a loader on the tractor so when I am in position to hook up the lower links I roll the bucket down and then lower it down to the ground with some down pressure actually lifting the front end a little. (the bucket is stabbing straight down into the ground) Then with the tractor basically anchored in that position by the bucket I will put the transmission in neutral and brakes will be off. I'll go behind the tractor to do the hook up. By reaching up to the control valve from behind the tractor I can roll the tractor back and forth a little by using the control valve to roll the bucket. As the lower links slide onto the implement the tractor has to roll forward a little bit. This method works well for me but I am not sure the safety police would approve. I would caution against doing this on anything other than level ground. I would also caution to be aware of the possibility of having an attack of clumsiness and inadvertantly get yourself pinned between the implement and the tractor. But I would rather do this than risk injuring my back wrestling a 500 pound three point hitch implement back and forth. Again, telescoping lower links would make this process simple and New Holland is the only manufacturer I have seen that makes them available.

Steve, I doubt very much if you will find any other three point that will fit a 430. I had a 420 and wanted a three point for it. I found that John Deere had designed things rather poorly to allow for an easily adding the three point. You have to remove and replace one rather expensive weldment (the rochshaft) if you want do this using John Deere parts. It would have cost John Deere almost nothing to put the put the better rochshaft in these machines in the first place. That would have allowed for easy upgradeability of the three point. The rockshafts look the same except for a few extra brackets on the three point version. My soloution for this was to make my own three point. I used the old rockshaft and just added the necessary brackets for the three point. My design also included telescoping lower links which the factory version did not. It is a nice weekend project for a metalworker. Bruce Lahmayer

Murf, I have thought about your explanation and your suggestion for a solution with a "line throttle valve". Thanks for your answer. But let me ask you a couple things. Is that a one way device? My own thought was some type of one way restricter valve. I looked at my Surplus Center catalog and found an item called a "flow regulator" for $16.95. The description for this item: "For regulating flow to cylincers or motors to control speed. Pressure compensated so flow stays the same regardless of the load. Free flow reverse direction." I think this would work except this partcular one is too big. It is rated for 12gpm in the restricted direction and 30 gpm in the reverse direction. My tractors pump is 7.8 gpm at some unspecified rpm. So I will have to search some more I guess. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask Kubota. But I wanted to ask you more about cavitation. I agree that cavitation is probably a good term to describe how this problem starts. To quote Webster: "Cavitation is the formation of partial vacuums in a flowing liquid as a result of the separation of its parts." The part of your explanation that I am having a problem with is imagining a streem of air bubbles suddenly making their way from the reservoir to the cylinders. I think the gas that is generated comes directly from air that is entrained into the hydraulic fluid itself. Or perhaps it is generated in a fashion similar to what happens when other fluids are placed into a vacuum. They boil off gas. But I am open to being convinced otherwise. And I would appreciate a source for the type of part that I need. BL

I recently bought a compressor and made my decision on previous experience with them. Here are some of my thoughts:
1. I don't really need 175 psi that is typical of two stage units. What I do need is lots of volume (cfm) for running air tools.
2. I don't want to keep it outside or even in an unheated outbuilding because in the winter it will have a hard time starting in the cold.
3. I need to be disciplined about not leaving it plugged in when I am not around to monitor its operation. Air compressors will ultimately have a mechanical failure of some sort. The belt will wear out. Or a pulley may get loose. They can run low on oil and sieze up. The belt gards can vibrate loose. I've had all of these things happen with two different compressors.

What I settled on was a three cylinder single stage design that could produce more volume than the more expensive two stage designs. It will keep up with most air tools and yet not have to run steady to do so. And it cost less than the least expensive two stage design.

I would like to try this too. I asked my dealer today and he mentioned how he has a number of people who run a 3-point blower on the back and the loader-blade on the front. Real handy for running back and forth if you have to clear a large area such as a parking lot. He wanted about $2000.00 to put one on my L4310 Kubota.<br>Bruce Lahmayer

Does anyone know where I can get telescoping lower arms for the three point hitch on a Kubota L4310? I have several implements that are difficult to wrestle into position for attaching to the three point. Telescoping arms would make a very difficult job very simple. <br>

Being that we are in the middle of a heat wave I thought that it would be a good time to ask a question about snow throwers. This winter I will be doing snow removal with a Kubota L4310. (36 PTO HP) The tractor is 62.4 inches wide. My question is what would be the best choice of three point hitch mount snow thrower for this tractor? I am particularly concerned about how far it will throw the snow. The job that I do, I previously handled with a John Deere 420 garden tractor and the 48 inch two stage thrower. I end up throwing a large amount of the snow twice because it can't toss it far enough on the first few passes. Just another 10 or 15 feet would make the difference.
